TOKYO —Prospective students of an all-girls high school here need not apply if they don’t know how to use chopsticks properly.

According to a report by the Associated Press, all applicants of Hisatagakuen Sasebo Girls’ High School must be able to transfer marbles, beads and beans from one plate to another with chopsticks before being granted admission. School officials said the test, which has been put into place because of concerns that “Japanese youth are losing touch with their traditional culinary culture and table manners,” judges the applicants’ lifestyle habits through their handling of the chopsticks. —Prospective students of an all-girls high school here need not apply if they don’t know how to use chopsticks properly.
