Baja Fresh creates Express variant with HMSHost for travel centers

THOUSAND OAKS Calif. Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, based here, is working with concessionaire HMSHost Corp. to open streamlined express units of the fast-casual Mexican chain in travel centers.

HMSHost, based in Bethesda, Md., is planning to open the first Baja Fresh Express outlets at Los Angeles International Airport and at the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Baja Fresh officials said the time frame for opening the express units was unclear.

The express units will be the first limited-menu outlets for Baja Fresh, which has been named the preferred fast-casual Mexican food chain for HMSHost. Baja Fresh operates or franchises 291 restaurants across the country.

Pat Carroll, vice president of branded concept portfolio for HMSHost, said: ÒWith Baja Fresh, we continue to offer the restaurant brands travelers appreciate. This exciting concept is a welcome addition to our portfolio of dining brands.Ó
