DALLAS Brinker International Inc. reported a 14-percent jump in third-quarter net income but said sales remain down at its flagship Chili’s Grill & Bar casual-dining chain.
Brinker, which also operates the Maggiano’s Little Italy chain and is in the process of selling its On The Border division, said net income was $40.0 million, or 39 cents a share, in the third quarter, which ended March 24, compared with year-ago profit of $35.0 million, or 34 cents a share. Same-store sales in the third quarter fell 5.0 percent at Chili’s and but rose 1.9 percent at Maggiano’s for a systemwide same-store dip of 4.2 percent.
