Checkers inks franchise deal for 20 Vegas units

TAMPA Fla. Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc. said it has signed a franchise deal with partners David Meldrum and Nick Nasrollahi to develop 20 Checkers restaurants in Las Vegas, marking the company’s foray into Nevada.

Nasrollahi, who was associated with Jack in the Box for 19 years, said in a statement that he was attracted to Checkers by the low cost of entry and the concept’s small footprint, “which is critical with skyrocketing real estate costs.” Actual locations have not been determined.

Checkers said the deal is part of its plan to grow in the western United States and represents a significant move forward in its national expansion plans.

Checkers, based here, operates or franchises roughly 800 quick-service Checkers and Rally’s Hamburgers twin-lane drive-thru restaurants in 28 states and the District of Columbia.
