Chick-fil-A to test spicy chicken sandwich

ATLANTA Chick-fil-A will begin testing a spicy chicken sandwich in the Baltimore and Jacksonville, Fla., markets on Jan. 21, a company spokesman said.

The new sandwich is hand-breaded, seasoned with a blend of peppers and pressure-cooked in refined peanut oil, Chick-fil-A said. Unlike the traditional Chick-fil-A sandwich, the spicy version will not be served with the chain’s trademark pickle slices.

The test at 25 Baltimore units and 15 Jacksonville units will run through April 19, the company said.

Chick-fil-A spokesman Mark Baldwin said the spicy chicken sandwich has been in development for quite a while.

“We put some extensive time into getting this right,” he said. “We hope we’ve got the right balance and hit the mark.”

Chick-fil-A already offers spicy chargrilled chicken in its Southwest Chargrilled Salad and its Spicy Chicken Cool Wrap.

Chick-fil-A, based here, has 1,358 stores.
