Domino’s CMO departs

ANN ARBOR Mich. Ken Calwell has left his post as chief marketing officer of Domino’s Pizza Inc. after nearly seven years, and Domino’s USA president Patrick Doyle is assuming his duties until a successor is named, the company said.

Domino’s did not give a reason for Calwell’s departure. Doyle, who once served as Domino’s marketing chief, will oversee all marketing functions, including oversight of the chain’s partnership with Crispin, Porter + Bogusky of Miami, which was named ad agency of record late last year and created the new “You Got 30 Minutes” campaign.

Calwell’s departure comes as Domino’s is undertaking a strategic-pricing, product and operations plan to regain positive same-store sales in the United States. Dominos had 5,128 domestic company-owned and franchised units when the first quarter ended on April 29. Domestic same-store sales for the quarter were down 5.2 percent, compared with a 2.9 decrease during the same period in 2007.

Domino’s has 8,641 units worldwide.
