Dunkin' unveils line of more healthful dishes

CANTON Mass. Dunkin’ Donuts is launching a line of more healthful menu items that include two egg-white flat-bread sandwiches that contain less than 300 calories each.

Called DDSmart, the menu line features new and existing items that have 25 percent fewer calories or 25 percent less sugar, fat and sodium than the chain’s traditional food items contain.

The new egg-white breakfast sandwiches, which debut Aug. 6, will be offered in two varieties: one made with turkey sausage, spinach and reduced-fat mozzarella cheese; and a veggie version made with peppers, onions, mushrooms and reduced-fat cheddar. Both are served on toasted multigrain flat bread.

Other items in the DDSmart line included Latte Lite coffee drinks, a Coffee Coolatta made with skim milk, a reduced-calorie Berry Smoothie, unsweetened ice tea, a multigrain bagel and a reduced-fat blueberry muffin.

The reduced-calorie items, which have been in test for the past year, are Dunkin’ Donuts' latest initiative aimed at offering more healthful items to customers. Last year, the company completed its move to a trans-fat-free menu, a process that began in 2003, Dunkin' officials said.

"Both our customers and franchisees have told us they’re looking for a greater breadth of menu choices that include better-for-you options without compromising quality, taste and value," said Will Kussell, president and chief brand officer for Dunkin' Donuts.
