Expect layoffs, Triarc tells Wendy’s staff

DUBLIN Ohio Some employees of Wendy’s International Inc. should expect to lose their jobs after the company is acquired by Triarc Cos. Inc., incoming chief executive Roland Smith told the company’s workforce yesterday in a letter.

The communication did not say which departments or types of employees were vulnerable. “I don’t know how to put it any other way and say that I am acting with integrity,” Smith wrote. He said the cutbacks would be necessary to realize efficiencies.

The letter also revealed that Smith, who also will continue to serve as CEO of Triarc, is moving here to oversee his new charge.

The $2.34 billion takeover of Wendy’s through a stock swap will make Triarc the operator or franchisor of 6,600 Wendy’s restaurants and 3,700 Arby’s outlets.
