Freshii in franchise deal to go west

CHICAGO Veteran foodservice operator Mark Damschroder has signed a master franchise deal to bring 20 Freshii locations to Colorado and Wyoming, the company said Friday.

Damschroder, an attorney and a former franchisee of Great Harvest Bread Co., plans to open units of the fast-casual Freshii chain in Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder and Colorado Springs, Colo., and in Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyo. His first store is slated to open in early 2010 in Colorado.

Chicago-based Freshii, which was founded in Toronto in 2005, offers a menu of build-your-own soups, salads, wraps and rice bowls. The company has 13 units in Chicago and Toronto and several under development. Freshii said it has signed franchise deals to build more than 90 restaurants in Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
