Hardee’s franchisee tests self-serve kiosks

ROCKY MOUNT N.C. Hardee’s largest franchisee, Boddie-Noell Enterprises Inc., said it has started testing self-service ordering kiosks in three of its 345 units.

The devices allow patrons to input their own orders, choosing from options that are digitally displayed. The kiosks present the choices and make suggestions “in such a manner as to influence customers’ decisions,” according to a statement that was jointly issued Monday by Boddie-Noell and the technology’s supplier, EMN8. In the release, Boddie-Noell expressed hopes that the equipment would cut service times and boost check averages.

The machines accept both cash and credit cards. The statement said that 60 percent of transactions typically involve cash.

In addition to operating 345 Hardee’s quick-service restaurants, Boddie-Noell owns the Texas Steakhouse & Saloon and Cafe Carolina and Bakery brands. It is also operates franchises of Moe’s Southwest Grill, the fast-casual burrito brand own by Focus Brands Inc., which is also the parent of Schlotzsky’s, Cinnabon and Carvel.
