Luby's debuts coffeehouse

HOUSTON Luby’s contract foodservice division has opened a coffeehouse called What's Brewing in a downtown Houston office building.

Luby's said the coffeehouse format would help it expand its contract foodservice business, which has grown while sales have fallen at the company's 95 cafeterias.

What's Brewing serves Seattle’s Best Coffee in lattes, cappuccinos and blended beverages, as well as tea, pastries and desserts, Luby's said.

“What's Brewing opens opportunities for us to expand our services in the contract foodservice industry," said Chris Pappas, president and chief executive of Houston-based Luby’s. "Leveraging the popular drinks of Seattle's Best Coffee and our expertise in great-tasting baked goods, we created a win-win for the tenants."

The coffeehouse opened at 1301 Fannin St., a 795,115-square-foot office tower in downtown Houston. Luby’s Culinary Services provides other foodservice at the building.
