McD dusts off Big Mac jingle for new promo

OAK BROOK Ill. McDonald’s Corp. has launched a national contest asking consumers to submit videos or audio remixes of the “two all-beef patties” Big Mac jingle to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the chain’s signature sandwich.

The Big Mac, invented by franchisee Jim “MJ” Delligatti in 1967, was introduced on McDonald’s national menu a year later. In 1974, Needham Harper & Steers created the popular jingle to showcase the Big Mac’s ingredients.

Consumers can submit their versions to MySpace.com/BigMacChant. The winning entry will be featured in a Big Mac TV spot at the end of July.

More than 500 million Big Mac sandwiches are sold each year in the United States alone, according to McDonald's. Because the sandwich is sold in more than 100 countries, The Economist magazine developed the “Big Mac Index,” an annual comparison of foreign currency values against the U.S. dollar.
