NRN Featured Beverage: Very Roasted Grain Mix

News

Very Berry, a single-unit Korean-style frozen yogurt shop based in New York, serves the now familiar tart frozen yogurt with a choice of fresh fruit toppings. And while customers can order smoothies made with the store's frozen yogurt, as they can at such competitors as Red Mango and Pinkberry, Very Berry also decided to serve a beverage that's a blended take on a traditional Korean summertime drink.

The Very Roasted Grain Mix is a version of a Korean warm-weather concoction made by mixing ice cold water, sugar or honey and mi-sut garu — a powder made from milling several varieties of roasted grains and seeds, such as rice, barley and sesame, or sometimes even black soy beans. At Very Berry the "Five Grain Roasted Powder" is blended with ice and sweetened with honey powder. The drink comes in one size and is available for $4.95.

Very Berry also serves the Korean summer favorite of shaved ice and red beans. Customers can order the dessert with red beans and fruit or just fruit. And instead of the traditional condensed milk, Very Berry tops the shaved ice with its frozen yogurt.
