NRN Featured Cocktail: Forget-me-not

News

Bartender Jeffrey Robbins at Blue Ribbon Bakery in New York recently debuted the Forget-me-not. In fact, the drink is still so new to the menu that the name is still a working title, Robbins said, adding that he was inspired to create the Forget-me-not when a customer brought in some elderflower liqueur. Along with that liqueur, the $11 drink also features grapefruit juice, lillet and cava, with a twist of lemon.

"I stick to some of the basics, but I play with things constantly," Robbins said.

Robbins describes Blue Ribbon Bakery as a "very traditional bar" that is fully stocked and puts high importance on fresh ingredients like fresh squeezed juices. The operation has no cocktail menu, however, and there are no signature cocktails.

Bartenders at Blue Ribbon are trained to create all the traditional and familiar concoctions, but they're not tied down by a set menu, so they also get a chance to create their own drinks. And taking time to get to know a bartender at Blue Ribbon Bakery means a customer can get a cocktail to their taste or maybe even a cocktail all their own.

"Customers definitely come in and will say they want certain flavors, and we might come up with something," Robbins said "It comes down to a personal relationship with the customer."
