N.Y. restaurant names soup after governor

Via Vanti!, an Italian restaurant and gelateria in the hometown of New York’s new governor, has introduced a soup in his honor.

The Mount Kisco, N.Y., restaurant named the soup Lago di Cuomo after Gov. Andrew Cuomo with a nod to Lago di Como, or Lake Como, a tourist destination in northern Italy. The dish is a green soup of escarole, chard, zucchini and arugula, puréed in vegetable stock and served with a crouton topped with goat cheese, chopped tomato and basil.

In order to appeal to all customers, the soup is vegan, and a non-dairy, gluten-free crouton is available upon request.

Owner Carla Gambescia said the restaurant would be offering a free taste of the soup through the month of January. For each order sold, $1 will be donated to a local food bank, she added.
