Quick-service chains face wage rule violations in China

GUANGDONG China KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonald's are facing allegations here of wage rule violations, local media reports have indicated. Labor regulators in Guangdong province are said to be investigating accusations that the chains paid employees less than the minimum wage, which is the equivalent of about $1 an hour.

Spokespeople for the chains were quoted as saying they were in compliance with the law but could need some clarification of overtime rules and the standards for students. A local newspaper reportedly asserted that the hourly rates being paid were 52 cents by McDonald's, 61 cents by KFC and 65 cents by Pizza Hut.
