Quiznos names Deno president

DENVER Quiznos has appointed former Yum! Brands Inc. chief operating officer David Deno as president, effective immediately, the company said Monday.

Deno, who will report directly to chief executive Greg Brenneman, will oversee all operations and international development for the all-franchised sandwich chain, Quiznos said.

Deno joins Quiznos from CCMP Capital, an investor in the restaurant company, where he was a managing director. While at CCMP, Deno was a director of Quiznos. Before joining CCMP, David spent more than 15 years with Yum and PepsiCo, the former owner of Yum. He served as chief operating officer and, previously, chief financial officer. Deno also held senior positions in the company’s international and Pizza Hut divisions. Yum’s other brands include Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver’s and A&W.

Prior to joining Yum, David worked for Burger King Corp. for eight years in various finance, real estate, and operations assignments.

Deno is one of several Yum and Burger King veterans who have joined the management team at 5,000-unit Quiznos since Brenneman, a turnaround specialist and former chief executive of Burger King, invested in the company and assumed the CEO post.

Other executives hired by Brenneman include Mike Elliott, formerly of Yum and Burger King, as executive vice president of third-party development; Steve Provost, formerly of Yum, as executive vice president and chief marketing officer; Rich Emmett, formerly of Papa John’s, as executive vice president and chief legal counsel; Clyde Rucker, formerly of Burger King, as executive vice president and chief administrative officer; Hannibal Myers, formerly of Church’s Chicken and Shoney’s Restaurants, as senior vice president of non-traditional development; and Kevin Dearth, formerly of Arby’s and Yum, as senior vice president of field operations.

In addition, Bill Flaherty and Brandon Turner, previously part of Quiznos’ senior team, were positioned in new roles as executive vice president of company development and executive vice president and chief financial officer, respectively.
