Red Lobster adds more lobster to its menu

ORLANDO Fla. Red Lobster said it is updating its menu with such new items as fresh asparagus, two lobster-topped potato side dishes and the casual chain’s first new dessert items in years.

The 680-unit seafood chain said it also added two coconut-rum cocktails and seven new wine choices.

Eight food items were added in total, including four options that include lobster.

The new entrees are the Chef's Signature Lobster, $17.99, and Shrimp Pasta and Steak Lobster-and-Shrimp Oscar, $21.99. The new sides include a Creamy Lobster-topped Baked Potato and Creamy Lobster-topped Mashed Potatoes, both $2.99 each.

The desserts are a warm Chocolate Chip Lava Cookie, a warm Apple Crumble a la Mode and New York-style cheesecake with strawberries.

The new cocktails are a Malibu Hurricane, a combination of coconut rum and tropical fruit juices topped with a splash of Southern Comfort; and the Biscayne Bay Breeze, which consists of coconut rum, a blend of pineapple juice and grenadine, and a splash of cranberry juice.

"These new menu items are just the latest step as we continue to refresh the Red Lobster brand," chain president Kim Lopdrup said in a statement.

Red Lobster is operated by Darden Restaurants Inc., which also owns and operates the Olive Garden, The Capital Grille and the LongHorn Steakhouse chains.
