Restaurants plan Election Day giveaways

SEATTLE On Election Day this year, a person’s vote can also be a ticket to a variety of freebies at restaurants, from coffee to chicken tenders.

Starbucks Coffee said it would give away a free tall cup of brewed coffee on Tuesday to any customer who voted. The offer will be good all day at participating stores, and no voting proof is required.

"In the best tradition of democracy, we’re using the honor system," a Starbucks spokeswoman said.

Krispy Kreme has created a special doughnut for Election Day — a star-shaped version of its classic glazed covered in red, white and blue sprinkles. Any customer who comes into a Krispy Kreme wearing an "I voted" sticker can pick one up for free.

Voters who are hungry for more can get an entire free meal at Shane's Rib Shack, an 85-unit chain based in Atlanta. The Shane's Vote America Meal includes three chicken tenders, fries and a 20-ounce drink. After Election Day, the chain said it would offer the combo meal for $5 for a limited time.

And for a sweet way to cap off the day, Ben & Jerry's said it would offer free scoops of ice cream to all customers who visit a store between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
