SLIDE SHOW: Charlie Palmer's Aureole reopens in NYC

NEW YORK Renowned New York chef Charlie Palmer celebrated the grand reopening of his upscale restaurant Aureole last week with a gala event benefiting Citymeals-on-Wheels, the nonprofit organization that provides food to the homebound elderly.

The event, held Sept. 15 at the restaurant’s new location at One Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, was attended by several hundred guests, including such luminaries as food writer Gael Greene, restaurateurs Drew Nieporent and Alfred Portale, and master sommelier Andrea Immer Robinson. A raffle drawing during the party raised nearly $28,000 for the charity, which will provide 4,000 meals for the elderly.

“There’s no better way to celebrate this momentous occasion than with an event to support Citymeals-on-Wheels,” Palmer said. “Aureole is my soul -- it’s my first restaurant."

The evening’s menu featured a selection of dishes that will be featured at Aureole, including a signature sea scallop sandwich with seared foie gras and passion fruit; pastrami pork belly sliders; and aged New York Strip with English peas and peppercorn au jus. Desserts included caramel cannolis with huckleberry jus and candied lemon zest and milk chocolate panna cotta with dark chocolate brownie and ginger beer.

The restaurant, which was designed by Adam Tihany, moved from a townhouse on the Upper East Side to its current location in midtown Manhattan earlier this year. According to Palmer, it features larger, more modern spaces to house the restaurant’s “dream kitchen, wine storage and more diverse dining rooms.”
