Subway adds yogurt side item

MILFORD Conn. Subway, in another attempt to offer foods perceived as healthful, has added Dannon yogurt to its Fresh Fit low-fat menu as a side dish.

The quick-service sandwich chain simultaneously rolled out a new version of its honey oat bread that contains more fiber.

“We’ve been looking for healthier sides and this is a natural fit,” said Subway spokesman Kevin Kane. “Both items are good extensions of what we’re trying to do, which is provide choices for whatever kind of meal you want to have."

Subway in March launched its Fresh Fit promotion, which included such healthful side items as apple slices, raisins and baked chips.

Kane said the company is looking to offer more healthful options, but he declined further comment.

Doctor’s Associates, based here, franchises more than 20,000 Subway restaurants in the United States.
