Tasti D-Lite inks deal to grow Northeast presence

FRANKLIN Tenn. Tasti D-Lite, the 50-unit frozen dessert chain, inked a deal Thursday with franchisee MM Ventures LLC to open 35 new stores in three northeastern states over the next 10 years.

The quick-service units will be located throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

According to a Tasti D’Lite spokeswoman, the new units will double the chain’s presence in those three markets. In addition to the deal, the chain also plans to open new stores this year in California, Arizona and Florida, and has development agreements for at least 16 units in Nashville, Tenn., and middle Tennessee, as well as a minimum of 40 locations throughout southern Texas.

Founded in 1987, Franklin-based Tasti D’Lite was acquired by private-equity firm Snow Phipps Group in 2007 for $21 million. The chain is known for its low-fat, frozen dairy treats that boast between 70 and 100 calories per 4-ounce serving.
