Cavendish Farms has purchased the Appetizer division of Omstead Foods. Also this week: Mission Produce Inc., Tree Top Inc., Produce Marketing Association, Synergy Restaurant Consultants, Blodgett Ovens, TurboChef, Trade Show Exhibitors Association, Server Products, and Mid-Atlantic Food, Beverage & Lodging Expo.

MONCTON, New Brunswick, Canada -- Cavendish Farms, a leading supplier of frozen potato products, has acquired the Appetizer division of Omstead Foods. The acquisition includes the purchase of the Omstead Appetizers name, the processing equipment at the Wheatley, Ontario, plant and a lease on the facility. Cavendish Farms will integrate the plant into the Cavendish Farms' operations and run it as part of the new Appetizer division. The company said it would continue to market all coated appetizer products previously offered by Omstead Foods.

MONTEREY, Calif. -- Mission Produce Inc. of Oxnard, Calif., was awarded the "Best of Show" among 149 exhibitors at the Produce Marketing Association's 2009 Foodservice Conference & Exposition here July 24-26. Second place honors were presented to Tree Top Inc. of Selah, Wash. Exhibitor booths were anonymously judged on overall presentation, product presentation and exhibit personnel.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. -- Austin, Texas-based Fired Up Inc., parent of the 170-unit Carino's Italian chain will continue to work with Synergy Restaurant Consultants here to help enhance and grow its casual-dining brand. Among other things, Synergy has helped to develop new and innovative menu selections for the chain utilizing Carino's new high-profile grill.

CANTON, Mass. -- Dunkin' Donuts, a division of Dunkin' Brands Inc. based here, has extended its exclusive agreement with Carrollton, Texas-based TurboChef, a subsidiary of The Middleby Corp. Under terms of the two-year extension, TurboChef will provide NGC "Tornado" rapid cook ovens for Dunkin' Donuts locations. TurboChef has been supplying ovens to Dunkin' Donuts since 2005. TurboChef said Dunkin' Donuts ranks as one of the largest users of its NGC rapid cook oven, with more than 11,500 ovens installed in the quick-service brand's locations around the world.

CHICAGO -- Members of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association named the National Restaurant Association's Mary Pat Heftman the Favorite Show Manager in the organization's first annual Exhibitors' Choice Awards. Heftman is the association's executive vice president of convention, with responsibility for the NRA's annual Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show, held annually here. She was tied for the top spot in the TSEA voting with Karen Chupka of the Consumer Electronics Show. The NRA Show also was voted an honorable mention by TSEA members in the Favorite Show of 2009 awards category.

RICHFIELD, Wis. -- Server Products, a leading manufacturer of foodservice dispensing and merchandising equipment, has appointed Kris Falkner to the post of president. A third-generation member of the company's founding family, Falkner will succeed her father, Paul Wickesberg, who will remain chairman of the board. Most recently, she held the post of executive vice president.

BALTIMORE -- The annual Mid-Atlantic Food, Beverage & Lodging Expo, which is produced by the Restaurant Association of Maryland, will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center here Oct. 7-8. This year's show will include a chef demonstration stage, the American Culinary Federation Chesapeake Chef Challenge, and a keynote session panel discussion focusing on "Thriving in the Mid-Atlantic Region during the Current Economy." BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Blodgett Ovens has named Janet Witt director of sales for the company's Western Region. Witt has more than 20 years of industry experience, during which time she worked with such brands as Bargreen Ellingson, Groen, Jackson, Cooper-Atkins and most recently Beverage-Air.
