Darden presents William B. Darden Distinguished Supplier Awards. Also this week: The National Restaurant Association, UniPro Foodservice, Tyson Food Service, J&J Snack Foods, California Churros, French’s Foodservice, CSM Bakery Products North America, iTradeNetwork

ORLANDO, Fla. — Darden Restaurants, the full-service restaurant company based here, honored 11 companies with its William B. Darden Distinguished Supplier Awards for 2010.

The honorees are:
The Coca-Cola Co. in Atlanta, for its product development work with Darden brands, and its support of LongHorn Steakhouse through its “Live at LongHorn” music program.
Nestlé Professional, in Rogers, Minn., for its work with Olive Garden and LongHorn culinary teams on sauces for new menu items.
ESKCO Inc., in Dayton, Ohio, for creating menu covers and cocktail menus for Seasons 52 restaurants.
Pilgrim’s Pride, in Pittsburg, Texas, for its work with the LongHorn culinary team.
Windsor Foods, in Houston, for helping Olive Garden develop its Pansotti pasta.
The Boston Beer Co. Inc., in Boston, for its efforts during the introduction of Sam Adams Boston Lager in Red Lobster restaurants and the development of a signature beer glass featuring the Red Lobster logo.
C.H. Guenther & Son Inc., in San Antonio, for its help with Red Lobster’s transition to trans-fat-free Cheddar Bay Biscuits.
Hallvard Leroy AS, in Norway, for its high level of service, collaboration and responsiveness in adjusting production and marketing processes to become a strategic supplier of Norwegian salmon.
Florida Stainless Fabricators Inc., in Oviedo, Fla., for helping Bahama Breeze’s culinary and operations teams redesign the kitchen layout in the brand’s new restaurant prototype.
Lotito Foods Inc., in Edison, N.J., for its outstanding support of all Darden concepts, including new product ideas.
MBM Corporation’s Riverside, Calif., operation as Distribution Center of the Year for 2010.
The awards, which are named for the company’s late founder, recognize suppliers who “go above and beyond” by providing innovative products and services that contribute to Darden’s success.

CHICAGO — The National Restaurant Association said hundreds of exhibitors at the recent NRA Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show donated the equivalent of nearly 52,000 meals in surplus food to the Greater Chicago Food Depository last month. Exhibitors at the 2010 show gave away a total of 68,962 pounds of food products, which equals 51,721 meals for Chicago’s needy. The show, which was held May 22 through May 25 this year, has partnered with GCFD for more than 20 years.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — UniPro Foodservice, a large foodservice cooperative, presented Tyson Food Service with its Center-of-the-Plate of the Year and overall Supplier of the Year awards. The two awards recognize companies for exemplary coordination with and support of UniPro Foodservice.

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — J&J Snack Foods Corp. said its subsidiary, J&J Snack Foods Corp. of California, purchased the assets of California Churros, a manufacturer of churros in Colton, Calif. California Churros generated sales of about $11 million in 2009. The company’s founders, the Martinez family, will continue to serve with the company.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — French’s Foodservice entered into a three-year partnership with the American Culinary Federation, Inc., to help support the Chef & Child Foundation, an organization that works through the ACF to educate children about proper nutrition and eating healthy. The partnership consists of sponsorships, which includes monthly nutrition-focused articles from ACF and Clemson University. It also includes a special fundraising opportunity enabling ACF members to use product purchases to give back to the Foundation.

TUCKER, Ga. — CSM Bakery Products said the integrated company of H.C. Brill and Best Brands Corp. will be named CSM Bakery Products North America. The company said it will continue to offer products under existing brands Brill, Best Brands, Multifoods, Henry & Henry, Fantasia, and Telco.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Sodexo Inc., the giant onsite feeder, selected iTradeNetwork Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., as its Global Data Synchronization Network Data Pool. Sodexo will be able to receive and share the latest GS1 standards-compliant product information, including nutritional data.
