Yum gives $2.3M for recovery efforts in China

LOUISVILLE Ky. The Yum Brands Foundation and the Yum China Division have donated $2.3 million for disaster relief in China, parent company Yum! Brands Inc. said.

Yum said the money was given to the China Poverty Alleviation Foundation, the China Charity Federation and China Red Cross.

Chinese officials said Tuesday that 40,000 people were dead and 32,000 were still missing after a massive earthquake struck the country's Sichuan Province last week.

Yum's China division has 2,640 KFC and Pizza Hut units in mainland China. The company said that none of its employees in the country has been reported dead following the disaster.

"A limited number" of its restaurants were damaged, Yum said, with several that have not yet reopened.

Louisville, Ky.-based Yum has more than 35,000 restaurants worldwide. Its other brands are Taco Bell, Long John Silver's and A&W All American Food.
