Denny's CEO talks diners, driving profits

Denny’s Corp., one of the largest family-dining restaurant companies, spent 2011 developing new menus, targeted marketing campaigns for Millennials and programs to aid franchisees looking to expand.

The parent to the 1,670-unit chain also boasted positive same-store sales results through most of the year, and improved restaurant-level profitability. The company’s chief executive officer, John Miller, even said family dining is a category worth watching again.

Miller sat down with Nation’s Restaurant News at the recent ICR XChange investor conference to discuss Denny’s top three priorities of 2012, plans for growth and why a family-dining menu needs to reach everyone – those looking for healthful options and those looking to indulge.
