Subway adds baked crispy chicken LTO

Subway debuted a sandwich on Monday containing breaded, crispy chicken that is baked instead of fried as a limited-time offer.

The Oven Crisp Chicken sub, which is part of the chain’s “Fresh Fit” line, will be available through Sept. 30.

The 34,600-unit chain also introduced a yogurt parfait to the Fresh Fit menu as a permanent item.

A Subway spokesman said the baked crisp chicken utilizes proprietary technology and is the first of its kind in the restaurant industry.

A 6-inch Oven Crisp Chicken sub contains 7 grams of fat. The recommended price is $4, with a foot-long version selling for $6.

Subway’s yogurt parfaits are made with low-fat vanilla yogurt layered with strawberries and blueberries and topped with granola. The parfait has 160 calories and two grams of fat. The recommended price is $1.49.

The new items come just a couple of weeks after the Milford, Conn.-based quick-service operator reformulated its bread, fortifying it with calcium and vitamin D.
