Gordon Biersch rolls workforce management, scheduling tool

News

CHATTANOOGA Tenn. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant Group Inc., based here, said it cut labor costs and increased its appeal to younger workers with Web-based HotSchedules Enterprise Edition software for workforce management, labor scheduling and manager collaboration.

“Within weeks of launching HotSchedules, we've reduced labor by 0.5 percent,” said Robert Werk, chief operating officer for GBBRG, owner of 37 restaurants under a variety of names, including Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and A1A Ale Works. “We're committed to catering to the lifestyle of our staff, as well as the increasing Generation Y [worker], by offering innovative features like schedule requests and confirmation via text message.”

Representatives of Austin, Texas-based HotSchedules said using its software, Gordon Biersch hourly employees can access their schedules around the clock online or via phone, and pick up shifts, request time off and send messages to managers or other employees. GBBRG’s Werk said HotSchedules makes managers faster at compiling schedules that efficiently allocate labor based on consideration of factors such as sales forecasts, staffing levels and the productivity required to meet targeted service levels.
