J. Christopher’s: Food savings among gains from back-office software

News

ATLANTA Breakfast-and-lunch-concept operator and franchisor J. Christopher’s Restaurants LLC, based here, said lower food costs and an accelerated inventory process are two of the benefits from using Restaurant Technology Inc.’s RTIconnect Internet-based back-office software.

The 21-unit, full-service chain that recently began franchising will use RTIconnect – with its food, labor and cash-management modules – in corporate and franchise locations, according to representatives of Marietta, Ga.-based RTI. They said using RTIconnect forced the J. Christopher’s management team to take a detailed look at operations, which led to menu standardization and a decision to use Micros Systems Inc. point-of-sale technology to better handle order customization and ticket additions and deletions.

J. Christopher’s chief operating officer Sam Haddock said he and partner Dick Holbrook are “huge advocates of calculating ideal food cost and having that as a true measurement of what your food cost should be.” He noted that the “RTIconnect system works very well for generating that [information],” and added, “We attribute a 1 percent to 1.5 percent in food-cost savings to using the RTIconnect program.”
