Kernels enlists Web-based POS

News

TORONTO Ontario Flavored-popcorn store franchisor Kernels Popcorn Ltd., based here, said its new licensed location in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates continues with the 66-unit chain's recent practice of using the Web-based Halo point-of-sale technology from Vivonet Inc.

"We will be able to see real-time information and help the new operations through the challenges they may face when establishing their business in a new environment," Penny Daniels, Kernels chief financial officer, said of one of the benefits of using Halo in Dubai and elsewhere. Daniels characterized Halo as "an affordable option that meets the strategic needs of the head office and the operational needs of our franchise owners both in Canada and abroad."

Representatives of Vancouver, British Columbia-based Vivonet, with offices in Bellingham, Wash., said restaurant operators using Halo's "secure" Web-based application have the ability to remotely monitor employee activity and access the back-end reporting system, as well as make system changes, from any location with Internet access. Headquarters and franchisor organizations using Halo Enterprise Manager, can, from online, run reports for one or multiple units tied to sales, menu mix and labor, and benchmark the collected data in a variety of ways, they added.
