McCain to speak at restaurant show

CHICAGO Republican presidential candidate John McCain has scheduled an appearance at the restaurant industry’s national convention in Chicago’s McCormick Place next Monday, the National Restaurant Association said today. In addition to addressing attendees during the morning, the senator from Arizona will meet privately with several chief executives from the industry to discuss tourism and travel, the NRA indicated.

McCain’s presentation will be open to all restaurateurs and exhibitors who register for the NRA’s Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show, which begins Saturday and runs through Tuesday. Past political speakers have included President George W. Bush and, following his departure from the White House, Ronald Reagan.

McCain is the Republican Party’s presumptive candidate for the presidency, since all of the other major contenders have dropped out of the race. He is expected to face either Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. Hillary Clinton from the Democratic Party in the general election in November.
