PCI Security Standards Council rolls new version of secure-payment application

LAS VEGAS —The PCI Security Standards Council announced the release of version 1.1 of the Payment Application Data Security Standard, or PA-DSS, at the Electronic Transactions Association Annual Meeting and Expo here.

The council was formed by the major payment card brands American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc. to help ensure the adoption of consistent data security measures, enhance payment account security, and foster participation and gather feedback. —The PCI Security Standards Council announced the release of version 1.1 of the Payment Application Data Security Standard, or PA-DSS, at the Electronic Transactions Association Annual Meeting and Expo here.

PA-DSS is the council-managed program that originally was managed by Visa. The goal of PA-DSS is to help software vendors and others develop secure payment applications that do not store prohibited data, like full magnetic-stripe and other sensitive authentication data. In addition the council will qualify companies in the coming months to become Payment Application Qualified Security Assessors, or PA-QSAs.
