Ecolab raises $118,000 for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Also this week: PepsiCo, Waste Management Inc., Kraft Foodservice, Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo, Refrigerated Foods Association, Sysco Foods, mUrgent, Kold-Draft

MINNEAPOLIS -- Ecolab Inc. raised more than $118,000 for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation at its eighth annual Ecolab Chairman's Reception. Raised during a silent auction, the funds will provide about 50 scholarships for foodservice students. Ecolab has contributed more than $1 million to the NRAEF over the past eight years. More than 750 foodservice operators and guests attended the silent auction, which is held during the NRA's Restaurant Hotel-Motel Show in Chicago in May.

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- PepsiCo formed a multiyear partnership with Waste Management Inc. to help support its Dream Machine recycling initiative. The PepsiCo initiative seeks to increase the U.S. beverage container recycling rate from 34 percent to 50 percent by 2018. Dream Machine kiosks, which will be provided by GreenOps LLC, a subsidiary of Waste Management, are computerized receptacles that have a reward system enabling consumers to collect and redeem points for each bottle they recycle.

NORTHFIELD, Ill. -- Kraft Foodservice has debuted a new snacks website at www.kraftfoodservice.com/snacks. The site includes product information and new product news; snack trends, consumer insights and nutritional data; custom category management tools and interactive snack rack builder; and free merchandising material.

LOS ANGELES -- The Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo will host the 2010 Ferdinand Metz Foodservice Forum. The forum will feature industry leaders who will discuss business lessons, the latest trend information and best practices in the marketplace for all concepts. The Expo, which is sponsored by the California Restaurant Association, will be held Aug. 14-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

ATLANTA -- The Refrigerated Foods Association has named Erik S. Lawser executive director. In his new role, Lawser will lead the RFA in alignment of its mission, goals and objectives, manage daily operations, and develop member services to help enhance the value of membership. Most recently Lawser was with the Wood Component Manufacturers Association.

HOUSTON -- Sysco Foods has selected mUrgent of Santa Ana, Calif., to be its national provider of e-mail marketing for its iCare program. The iCare program, which debuted in 2002, features a suite of services to help Sysco customers compete in the current foodservice marketplace.

ERIE, Pa. -- Kold-Draft, a manufacturer of ice making and bagging machines, has named Frank M. Pierce vice president of manufacturing. In his new role, Pierce will oversee all manufacturing, distribution and purchasing. Pierce has logged manufacturing and operations experience at General Electric and Allied Signal, among other places, and served as senior operations executive for four public and private companies.
