Making a weekend out of it
Several casual-dining brands are competing for their share of the Valentine’s Day market by offering two-person deals for most of the long weekend.
Ovation Brands Inc. is offering its Two Can Dine for $15.99 deal Friday through Sunday at its Ryan’s, HomeTown Buffet and Old Country Buffet brands. Customers who want to bring their kids — or cannot find a babysitter — can add two kids’ meals for 99 cents each to the deal.
California Pizza Kitchen will start its Valentine’s Day Celebration for Two even earlier, on Wednesday, Feb. 12, and extend it through Sunday, Feb. 16. The $30 deal includes one appetizer, two entrees and one dessert. The casual-dining chain will heavily promote its signature Strawberry Basil Martini to pair with the special Valentine’s Day menu.
For its Valentine’s Day weekend deal, Stir Crazy Fresh Asian Grill will offer from Thursday through Sunday a $50 three-course meal for two, consisting of one appetizer, two entrees, and a choice of either a dessert trio or the brand’s signature Famous Banana Wontons. A special menu of oversized alcoholic beverages meant to be shared will also be available, for $17 each.
Singles not singled out
Some Valentine’s Day promotions do not focus only on romantic couples.
TGI Fridays is asking its Twitter followers which side of the “couples vs. singles” debate they take, allowing fans to vote by tweeting with the hashtags #TGImTaken or #TGImSingle. The chain also is planning a social media promotion Monday through Friday to honor the “wingman,” the important romantic helper and sidekick. The first 500 men or women to follow TGI Fridays’ Twitter handle and tweet at the brand using #thankswingman will receive a gift card.
A special menu of Valentine’s Day drinks includes the Cosmo Noir, which combines raspberry vodka, lemon juice, vanilla syrup and a layer of Pinot Noir.
Hooters is also trying to appeal to both couples and singles. The casual-dining chain will offer a special all day on Friday, Feb. 14, of two 10-piece chicken wing orders for $14. Promotional materials will aim the two-for-one at couples, but single diners are encourages to treat themselves to both wing orders as well on Valentine’s Day.
Hooters will promote the offer all week with special Hooters Girl Valentine’s Day cards.
