Restaurant social media experts talk strategy

NRN held a Tweet chat with the industry's leading social media directors

Some of the restaurant industry's foremost authorities on social marketing joined NRN editors in a special Tweet chat Wednesday to delve further into restaurant social media strategies shared in Nation's Restaurant News' April 15 special report.

Participants included Rick Wion, director of social media for McDonald's; Caroline Masullo, director of digital and social marketing for Pizza Hut; and Liz Bazner, social and digital communications specialist for A&W Restaurants, who participated on her personal Twitter account and as her alter ego, Rooty the A&W Bear.

The experts shared several ways in which their responsibilities have changed in the few short years since their brands hired them to oversee and coordinate social marketing strategies, from managing new platforms and optimizing social media for mobile to integrating it into operations, human resources and customer service.

Below are highlights from the chat, which used the #NRNSocialChat hashtag.
