Charlotte, N.C.-based JJ’s Red Hots isn’t taking sides in the presidential campaign, but is instead asking customers to vote for the next great hot dog.
Starting Oct. 3, the two-unit chain (plus a food truck) will offer five hot dog choices created by local social media celebrities, from the CLT Five Herbivore with roasted carrot, Thai chile sauce, onions, peppers, cilantro, Sriracha mayo and crushed peanuts; to the Yelp Charlotte Dog, an all-beef dog on a pretzel bun with beer queso, sauerkraut, mustard and sweet, sautéed onions.
“Given the choices this year, we felt like we needed to give Americans something tasteful to vote for, because we care about our children’s culinary futures,” said Jonathan Luther, JJ’s proprietor and founder. “As we like to say, ‘Ask not what you can do for your hot dog. Ask what your hot dog can do for you.’”
