Subway will partner with Keurig Green Mountain Inc. to bring thousands of the company’s single-serve coffee and tea brewers to thousands of sandwich shops in the United States, the company said Tuesday.
Currently, more than half of the Subway restaurants in the United States and Canada have adopted a Keurig system, which brews single-serve K-Cups. The Milford, Conn.-based quick-service chain has more than 25,500 franchised restaurants in the United States alone.
Officials for Keurig said the system would help Subway franchisees simplify coffee brewing during breakfast hours and in dayparts with less demand, as well as reduce waste and cleanup.
“Since introducing Keurig brewers as an option to our franchisees last year, we’ve heard overwhelmingly positive feedback about Keurig’s ability to deliver variety, quality and freshness on demand,” said David Zambory, Subway’s beverage manager, in a statement. “Subway restaurants are a destination throughout the day, including at breakfast, and we look forward to providing our customers with the freshest cup of coffee possible, no matter when they visit us.”
Keurig’s K150 Series system is the company’s first small- or medium-capacity brewer to be certified for foodservice use by the National Sanitation Foundation.
Subway began selling breakfast in 2010, and its first coffee offering was a Seattle’s Best-branded option.
The chain has more than 42,000 locations in 106 countries.
