Wendy’s and Smashburger are rolling out new bold-flavored sandwiches as limited-time only promotions
Wendy’s new Spicy GuacamoleClub sandwich features the chain’s original Spicy Chicken filet topped with pepper Jack cheese, ranch sauce, guacamole, applewood-smoked bacon, lettuce and tomato. It is served on a buttered, toasted bun.
Customers who prefer their sandwiches mild can substitute the quick-service chain’s Homestyle breaded Chicken Filet or Ultimate Chicken Grill in place of the Spicy Chicken filet.
The Spicy Chicken Guacamole Club sandwich is made to order.
"Consumers tell us they're willing to try bold, new products, so we created an exciting flavor profile that will awaken your taste buds," said Gerard Lewis, Wendy's senior vice president of product development. "We continue to pay attention to our customers' taste cravings, and the Spicy Chicken Guacamole Club is perfect when they want to add a little kick to their day."
Wendy’s also recently introduced an Asiago Ranch Chicken Club sandwich.
Wendy’s, which is based in Dublin, Ohio, operates or franchises 6,594 restaurants in the United States and 27 foreign markets.
The fast-casual burger chain Smashburger also unveiled its new Fresh Mex Burger, which offers customers the choice of substituting chicken for the Angus beef patty.
The sandwich is topped with avocado, cilantro, onions, pepper Jack cheese, sour cream, spicy chipotle mayonnaise, and lettuce and tomato, and served on a Mexican roll with a lime wedge on the side.
The chain, which creates sandwiches tailored to specific units based on regional tastes, originally created the Fresh Mex Burger for the San Diego market, but is now rolling it out nationwide.
Prices for the Fresh Mex Burger start at $5.99. The Big Fresh Mex Burger — 7.5 ounces of meat versus 5.3-ounces — is $6.99, the company said.
“Favorite ingredients often used in Mexican cuisine inspired us to create this new recipe, which features a burst of fresh, cool flavors from the avocado, cilantro, onion, lettuce and tomato that blend flawlessly with the pepper Jack cheese, sour cream and spicy chipotle mayo atop our juicy burgers and chicken sandwiches,” said Smashburger chief concept officer Tom Ryan.
Denver-based Smashburger ended 2011 with 143 units.
