McDonald’s will introduce Mighty Wings nationwide at most locations on Sept. 9, with systemwide rollout by Sept. 24, the company said. The item consists of lightly breaded and fried chicken wings and drums.
Mighty Wings will be available in orders of three, five and 10 pieces, starting at $2.99. Pricing during a Chicago-area test last winter was $2.99 for three, $4.79 for five and $8.99 for 10.
Burger King will introduce a French Fry Burger for $1 on Sept. 1. The item is a standard hamburger with four French fries on top of the patty. The sandwich will be available through the end of the year.
Subway will introduce garlic bread as a new option for its sandwiches starting Sept. 1. The bread will be available systemwide through the rest of the year, or while supplies last. Afterwards, franchisees will have the option of continuing to serve it, a company spokesman said.
Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar has added three new Honey Pepper Grill items at its 1,885 locations through Nov. 11.
The Honey Pepper Sirloin is grilled, tossed in honey pepper sauce, served over fried red potatoes, and topped with fried onions and jalapeños. It is priced at a suggested $11.29.
The 4-Cheese Mac & Cheese with Honey Pepper Chicken Tenders features breaded chicken tenders in honey pepper sauce served over macaroni and cheese that is mixed with applewood-smoked bacon. It is priced at a suggested $10.99, and is also available on the chain’s Lunch Combos menu, starting at $6.99.
The Honey Pepper Chicken & Shrimp is made with grilled chicken over fried red potatoes and green beans, all topped with fried shrimp tossed in the honey pepper sauce. It is priced at a suggested $10.99.
The entrées are also available as part of Applebee’s 2 for $20 offer, which is a shareable appetizer and two full-sized entrées for $20.
Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. have added a Buffalo Blue Cheese Burger to their menus for football season.
The burgers are made with beef patties topped with Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Wings sauce, blue cheese crumbles, Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, red onion, tomato and lettuce. They are served on a sesame seed bun for about $2.89 for a single, $3.89 for a double, and $4.89 for a Hardee’s Thickburger or Carl’s Jr. Six Dollar Burger.
Hardee’s has also introduced Buffalo Chicken Tenders at its 1,951 locations. The tenders are breaded, dipped in Frank’s RedHot sauce and served with buttermilk ranch dipping sauce. They are available in three- and five-piece servings, starting at $3.49.
Although this is the first time the chains have used Frank’s RedHot sauce on hamburgers, both chains used the Buffalo Wings sauce on a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich in 2007. Hardee’s also offered Buffalo Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders and Chicken Fillet Sandwiches in 2011.
Carl’s Jr. has 1,391 locations.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, a 95-unit chain based in Wichita, Kan., has introduced a new hamburger, hot dog and milkshake as limited-time offers available through Sept. 18.
The Hatch Green Chile Steakburger has grilled onions, cheese, mustard and Hatch green chile peppers on a butter-toasted bun. The green chile also can be ordered on top of a Vienna Beef hot dog during the LTO period. Prices vary by location, but corporate units have priced the burger at $5.29 and the hot dog at $2.99.
Hatch green chiles are a specialty of New Mexico, and Freddy’s Albuquerque location plans to keep the new burger as a permanent item.
The S’mores Concrete is made with toasted marshmallow-flavored custard, graham crackers and fudge. The frozen treat is topped with whipped cream and graham crackers. Corporate units have priced the concrete at $4.09.
Burger 21, a nine-unit chain founded by Melting Pot Restaurants Inc., has introduced a Caramel Macadamia Sundae as a permanent menu item. The dessert is made with a macadamia and white chocolate cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, whipped cream and candied pecans. Prices vary by location, starting at $4.49.
Slater’s 50/50 has added a new breakfast menu, available all day on Sundays through football season.
The Breakfast Burrito is made with three eggs, American cheese, potato pancakes, guacamole, chipotle sour cream and a choice of bacon or chorizo, and priced at $9.95.
The Slater’s 50/50 Breakfast Sandwich mimics the chain’s signature 50/50 burger, made with half bacon and half ground beef. The sandwich consists of 50-percent ground chorizo and 50-percent ground bacon with Cheddar cheese, two sunny-side-up eggs and thick-cut bacon between two deep-fried Eggo waffles, served with maple syrup and priced at $9.95.
The Donut Burger is Slater’s half bacon/half beef patty with American cheese and a sunny-side-up egg sandwiched between two glazed doughnuts, priced at $9.95.
The Fried Chicken & Pancakes is fried chicken dressed in bacon-infused country gravy and served with two strips of thick-cut bacon and a sunny-side-up egg layered between three buttermilk pancakes.and priced at $10.95.
Six-unit Slater’s is based in San Diego.
