Chef Charlie Trotter and hotel group part ways

CHICAGO A deal for award-winning restaurateur Charlie Trotter to provide food and beverage services at a high end hotel and condominium project in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood has fallen through.

Trotter and The Elysian Hotel and Private Residences have dissolved a two-year partnership, according to a statement released Thursday, and no replacement for food and beverage services was named. The recently completed hotel and condo project has 188 hotel rooms and 52 residences for sale and plans to open in late spring.

“The Elysian Hotel and Private Residences and Chef Charlie Trotter have mutually and amicably agreed to part company, effectively dissolving their relationship immediately,” the Elysian statement said. “Out of respect for both parties, the Elysian is not announcing a new partner at this time.”

Trotter had agreed in 2007 to operate the food and beverage services, including room service and a restaurant that would be fine dining in the evening but offer casual fare for breakfast and lunch.

The restaurant would have been the first in Chicago since Trotter opened his namesake, five-star restaurant in 1987, in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Trotter also has two restaurants in Las Vegas.

Calls for further comment placed with the Elysian and Trotter were not returned by press time.
