Meyer signs on for foodservice ops at Mets' new stadium

NEW YORK Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group said it has inked a deal with the New York Mets and contract feeder Aramark Corp. to provide foodservice operations at Citi Field, the team’s new ballpark that opens next year.

According to officials at USHG, which is owned and operated by renowned restaurateur Meyer, dining facilities will include outposts of the group’s Blue Smoke barbecue restaurant and Shake Shack burger concept. USHG also will introduce two new eateries at the stadium: a yet to be named taqueria that will serve authentic, freshly made tacos and Pop Fries, a stand that will offer Belgian-style fries with a variety of dipping sauces.

All four eateries will be located in the stadium’s outfield concourse and will be accessible to all ticket holders.

In addition, USHG will operate food and beverage service in the stadium's Sterling Club, a premium-seat area on the field level behind home plate. Dining options in the 1,600-seat area will include the Sterling Market, a casual cafe that will offer comfort foods, and the Sterling Beer & Wine Bar, which will serve specialty brews and an extensive selection of wines by the glass or bottle. The Sterling Dining Room will offer a small-plates menu, and the Sterling Bar & Lounge will provide specialty cocktails and small bites. USHG also will offer in-seat service in the premium area featuring a waitstaff that will serve “Best of Ballpark” food from the outfield concourse.

USHG operates several restaurants in New York City area, including its flagship Union Square Cafe.
