Popeyes 2Q U.S. same-store sales rise 4.3%

Parent AFC Enterprises credits unit redesigns, growth

AFC Enterprises Inc., the Atlanta-based operator and franchisor of the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen brand, credited accelerated unit growth, a new restaurant design and new-product promotions for its gains in revenue and net income in the second quarter. Same-store sales rose 4.3 percent in the United States and 5.8 percent in its international system for the July 14-ended quarter.

NET INCOME

Result: $8.5 million, or 35 cents per share
% Increase: 28.8% (from $6.6 million, or 27 cents per share)

REVENUE

Result: $47.9 million
% Increase: 21.0% (from $39.6 million)

SAME-STORE SALES

% Increase at domestic restaurants: 4.3%


% Increase at domestic company-owned units: 1.7%


% Increase at domestic franchised units: 4.3%


% Increase at international franchised units: 5.8%
