McDonald’s 2Q profit, sales rise slightly

Company warns on ‘challenged’ sales for rest of 2013

Net income, revenue and same-store sales all rose slightly for McDonald’s Corp. in the June 30-ended second quarter. However, the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company indicated that July same-store sales would be relatively flat, as the global informal-eating-out market is not expected to improve materially, and that results for the rest of 2013 would remain “challenged.”

NET INCOME

Result: $1.397 billion, or $1.38 per share
% Increase: 3.6% (from $1.347 billion, or $1.32 per share)

REVENUE

Result: $7.08 billion
% Increase: 2.4% (from $6.92 billion)

SAME-STORE SALES

% Increase: 1.0%
(including a 1% increase in the United States, a 0.1% decrease in Europe, and a 0.3% decrease in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa)
