TGI Fridays launches burger freebie via social media

Customers get codes to share “digital burgers” with social networks

TGI Fridays has launched a new promotion that lets customers who have made a purchase share a free burger with their social networks, the casual-dining chain said Wednesday.

“We think giving our guests an innovative way to pay a burger forward, and the race to snag one of our digital burgers, allows friends to socialize in a new way, while being generous,” said Brian Gies, chief marketing officer for Carrollton, Texas-based TGI Fridays. “People love the friendly competition and the free burgers.”

A spokeswoman for the chain said the promotion is “designed to engage guests and their friends — both inside and outside the restaurant.”

The promotion, called “Jump Burger: Buy One, Give One,” allows customers who have purchased any TGI Fridays burger to enter a receipt-printed code at the microsite www.jumpburger.com, and then toss that digital freebie to their social media networks on Facebook or Twitter, or in an email.

The first social connection to snag the offer gets the free digital burger.

“You have to act fast,” TGI Fridays said in a news release. “Once burgers go up for grabs, they go quickly — and this promotion is only for a limited time.”

The microsite noted that the offer is valid from July 1 through Aug. 23, or while supplies last, and that it is not valid for the Kid’s Burger. The promotion uses the #JumpBurger hashtag.

On Wednesday, TGI Fridays ranked No. 24 among brands in Nation’s Restaurant News’ proprietary Social 200 index.

Along with the Jump Burger promotion, TGI Fridays will introduce several new menu items on July 22, including a Smoke Stacked Burger, Jack Sliders, a Sicilian Stacked Burger and a Spicy Chorizo Burger.

Fridays also said Wednesday it will be bringing back “Endless Appetizers,” a continuous supply of select starters, priced at $10 per person. The offerings include French Onion Dumplings, Sriracha Chicken Potato Skins and Spicy Chicken Tostadas.

TGI Fridays has more than 900 restaurants in 60 countries.
