Known around the globe for its iconic “31 flavors” logo, the Baskin-Robbins ice cream chain has nearly 7,000 locations in more than 50 countries. The brand got its start in 1945 in Glendale, Calif., when founders Burton Baskin and Irvine Robbins merged their ice cream ventures. Over the years the chain expanded its menu with such items as ice cream cakes and signature iced beverages. Owned by publicly held Dunkin’ Brands Inc., in Canton, Mass. (Ticker: DNKN), Baskin-Robbins saw U.S. systemwide sales of $497.0 million for the year ended Dec. 2011.
