Checkers Drive-In Restaurants made its restaurant industry debut about 25 years ago with its signature double-drive-thru design, which has been imitated by many of its competitors over the years. Today, the quick-service burger specialist currently is testing a single drive-thru design at freestanding restaurants. Owned by Wellspring Capital Management LLC, Checkers — which also owns the Rally’s brand — generated U.S. sales of $430 million for the year ended Dec. 2011. It has about 485 company and franchised locations.
