Church's Chicken logoThis fried chicken chain, owned by private equity firm Friedman Fleischer & Lowe, is the fourth largest operator in that arena, after KFC, Chick-fil-A and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. It targets mostly urban markets and specializes in bone-in chicken, tenders and biscuits. About 80 percent of its system is franchised.
