Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, owned by publicly traded AFC Enterprises (Ticker: AFCE), is the United States’ third largest fried chicken chain in terms of systemwide sales, behind KFC and Chick-fil-A. It markets its Louisiana heritage with side dishes such as red beans and rice and limited time offerings that feature shrimp, the spicy flavors of the region, or promotional tie-ins with companies from that state. Its system is almost all franchised, although it is currently developing Indianapolis with only company-owned restaurants.
