NEW YORK The New York Department of Health said the inspector who gave a passing grade to the rat-infested Taco Bell/KFC restaurant in Greenwich Village here has been removed from field duty. Health commissioner Thomas Frieden also vowed to review the inspection process that allowed the franchised quick-service outlet to remain open despite an apparent infestation of rodents.
The outlet was advised to clean the premises, sanitize the equipment and hire exterminators, but was only closed after the broadcast media and press began publicizing the rodent problem. Frieden said the inspection should have resulted in a more severe action.
