Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar has added two new Italian entrees to its wallet-friendly 2 for $20 menu, the company said Thursday.
Lenexa, Kan.-based Applebee’s said that customers can now order Chicken Fettuccine Carbonara and Bruschetta Chicken from its menu that offers two diners a choice of one appetizer and two entrees for $20. The roll-out of the new items comes at time when customers want value without sacrificing flavor, Shannon Johnson, chef and executive director at Applebee’s, said.
“Our guests want great food at a great value,” Johnson said in a statement. “They can enjoy great food and flavors every day without breaking the bank.”
The menu offers customers more than 200 combinations from a list of appetizers and entrees that include Spinach & Artichoke Dip, mozzarella sticks, Fiesta Lime Chicken and a 7-oz. house sirloin steak. Its latest additions, which will remain on the menu as long as they are popular, are:
• Chicken Fettuccine Carbonara, grilled chicken breast served over fettuccine with fresh mushrooms, red peppers, peas, bacon, grape tomatoes, onions and creamy carbonara sauce, topped with parmesan cheese and served with garlic bread.
• Bruschetta Chicken, grilled chicken breast seasoned with bruschetta, parsley and a blend of Italian cheeses, stacked on top of crispy red potatoes, fried onion, and red and green peppers, and topped with scampi and Bolognese sauces.
Applebee’s 2 for $20 menu, which launched in 2008, was the first value platform of its kind to be offered by a casual dining restaurant, said Nancy Mays, an Applebee’es spokesperson. It originally began as a limited-time offer, but became a permanent part of the menu due to its popularity with customers, she added.
The expansion of the 2 for $20 menu is part of a major menu overhaul at Applebee’s over the past 18 months, and most recently included the addition of a Cinnamon Apple Turnover earlier this week.
Applebee’s is a property of DineEquity Inc. and has approximately 2,000 locations in 40 states, 15 countries and one U.S. territory.
